Level 3 Games design
unit 78: digital graphics for computer games
Photo Realism:
photo realism is the art style that looks realistic like a photograph the game i am going to use as a demonstration is The last of us a PS3/4 exclusive and it really gets you involved in the game and you feel for the characters. photo realism is used in games where they try and make it look as realistic as possible such as the last of us, GTA, LA noire, and many more.
Pixel:
pixel design looks more like a cartoon and unrealistic but it can still give of that immersive feeling the game i am going to use to demonstrate is Fez, Fez is a game where its still colourful even though its made by pixels the character is a little sprite and it gives of that small character in a big world feeling. games that use pixels are always close to the heart because even though they lack in graphics they tend to always have a good story line which is very important to me and probably the more important thing than graphics.
Exaggeration :
this is the art style commonly used by companies to make anime and its also used in games such as the Street fighter games it suits the game style well and it has made it one of the most iconic games ever. mostly it makes the characters and models over exaggerated hence the name and its almost the opposite of photo realism, it is always over the top for example in fighting games all the characters will be beating away at each other but they'll always get back up only to then use there ultimate ability which would kill a man but they would just get back up undamaged it adds to a humour level as well as a competitive fighting feeling with your mates
Abstract:
Abstract is the art style that is made up of shapes and colours for example the old classic games like Tetris and also Space invaders personally I do not have much interest in this design type but i still like it and have played games with it. It was one of the first styles along side with pixels and you can really tell by the design
